Group Visits

Visiting groups are always very welcome. We offer guided tours and can organise talks and presentations on a range of subjects, tailored to your group's specific interests.

Organised guided tours of the Abbey usually take about an hour and we can cater for groups of up to 40 people, split into smaller groups. One of our expert volunteer tour guides can take you through the hidden intricacies and the history of the Abbey, its quirks and features and guide you seamlessly from one talking point to the next.  Prices start from £8.50 per person (including access to the Saxon Crypt dating from 674AD - which is normally charged at £3), funds go direct to Abbey funds helping towards the upkeep and running of the Abbey.

We can also offer catering packages for groups, anything from tea/coffee up to full buffet lunches - just ask us for more details.

Self guided tours are classed as any group visiting the Abbey with your own guide (as in someone being paid to facilitate your visit).  We ask for a contribution of £3 per person for self guided tours and please ask that you book in your visit in advance - this is to avoid any clashing with servces or events, plus other groups of course!   If you do not book in ahead then you may arrive onsite and not be able to enter the Abbey!   (for exampe a funeral service may be on)   Hence please contact us in advance to avoid disappointment.

Finally - we also have a dedicated audio guide which anyone can access and be guided around the site using their own mobile phone - access to this comes with the purchase of our visitor booklet (£3).

Also onsite we have 'The Big Story' which is an interactive exhibition spread across two rooms and is available for both self guided and guided tours to enter free of charge.

The coach drop-off point for visitors is just outside the Abbey Gift Shop, which offers postcards, guidebooks, and a range of souvenirs of your visit.

We offer a special discount on guidebooks to groups who have booked a tour with us, please ask at booking for more details.

Both types of tour are booked by contacting us via email on ; gm@hexhamabbey.org.uk -  where availability and price can be discussed.
