Festival of Flame

Illuminate

Illuminate: Festival of Flame returns this year with a host of elements to be discovered in the Abbey and beyond for the whole family to enjoy. There are some elements still being planned, but here is a flavour of what to expect...

  • A gathering of Illuminated Sheep as they return from their host communities across Northumberland.
  • An installation of 1,000 candles depicting the cover of the Lindisfarne Gospels
  • A Saturnalian Roman fire garden
  • Live music in the Abbey including a performance by Noah Lawson (piano and vocals)
  • Food and drink from the Abbey’s Refectory and Fire & Dough pizzas
  • Toasted marshmallows
  • Viking invaders
  • Craft activities
  • A last chance to see the Hexham Art Trail of Illuminated Sheep along the High Street Heritage Action Zone

Festival of Flame is organised by Hexham Community Partnership in conjunction with Hexham Abbey and Queen’s Hall.

Funding for this year's event has been provided by Historic England, Northumberland County Council, Arts Council England and Hexham Town Council
