Bronze plaque with raised letters in memory of Charles William Chipchase Henderson of The Riding 1847 – 1914. Has a raised escutcheon in top L.H. corner: shield and scroll with motto: ‘SOLA VIRTUS NOBILITAT’ (Virtue alone ennobles). Arms: Per pale indented in chief a crescent between two ermine spots.

1847: C W C Henderson was born 31st December.
1886: C W C Henderson, coal-owner, The Riding
1890: Originally from County Durham. Having made his pile selling carpets and rugs, CWC sold up in 1890 and moved to Tynedale. He made a massive injection of money and enthusiasm into Hexham Racecourse.
1914: Mr Henderson died in 1914, as a result of a chill caught while doing war work. [Tynedale Mirror, 11.3.1937, p.3]. [Hexham Parish Mag. Jan. 1915] C.W.C. died on 3rd December.
