Arranged as ‘L’ shape – with 15 stalls on N side of quire facing south and four stalls at west, backing to the organ screen. In front of these three prayer desks with seats in front on north, attached to one to west; & in front of these three prayer desks facing south, the most westerly fixed into west (east-facing) prayer desk.
176.1 – .19 stalls with misericords – descriptions of each follow.
176.20 – .22 prayer desks with seats in front – poppy head ends
176.23 – .26 prayer desks.
Each prayer desk merits individual description. All are placed on a platform; fitted to present position as part of the Edwardian re-ordering of the Chancel.

Misericord N6 An evil pard head

An evil pard head – usually described as a lion mask or leopard mask, but these are complete heads – with a protruding tongue from an open mouth, a snub nose, elongated eyes extending to the ears. Pards were bloodthirsty progeny of panthers and lionesses that killed with one bound. There is a similar carving on a roof boss in the south transept [HEXAB362.9]. Similar to N7, N10, N11 [HEXAB176.7, HEXAB176.10, HEXAB176.11] & S15 [HEXAB177.15]
Supporters: A pendant rosette. East elbow rest (opposite the aisle): Two acanthus leaves.

Misericord N13 Bouquet of stiff-leaf foliage

A bouquet of stiff-leaf foliage symbolizing a tree, three acanthus leaves with two clusters of flower heads or berries, or rose leaves and rose hips.
Supporters: An acanthus leaf, turned inwards and upwards over the stem. East elbow rest: A five-petalled rose with two cut leaves on the east side, but with two acanthus leaves on the west side; the west side is partly broken.

Misericord N16 Flower & Corner Unit

A five-petalled rose with another larger rose inverted behind it. Similar to S7, S10, S18 [HEXAB177.7, HEXAB177.10, HEXAB177.18]
Supporters: A plain triple-lobed leaf, turned outwards and upwards. North elbow rest (across the corner): A ‘single’; a human demi-figure, in a castellated corbel similar to S2 [HEXAB177.2], the face is somewhat worn; two acanthus leaves above the head.
