As with window no.S4 [HEXAB1416] in the south Chancel aisle, the canopy or tabernacle above the figure of Christ and the seven watchers was removed about 1960 and replaced by Elders Walker with a sky of streaky hand-made glass manufactured by Hartley Wood & Co of Monkwearmouth.
1993: The foot at the bottom left-hand corner, which had been put in upside down in an earlier repair so that the toes pointed upwards, was turned the correct way.
1996: Protected with 6 mm polycarbonate by B & R Glazing Co. Ltd. in June 1996 [Faculty reg. no.4, Faculty no.4762, granted 26 Jan. 1996]
2011/2012: All the polycarbonate protection was removed and wire guards fitted by H&R Developments, Caulkerbush, Dumfries in Oct–Nov 2011 and Jan 2012. [Faculty dated 26 July 2011]
Burial register: 1263; Kirsopp, Ann; Spinster; 26; Maiden Cross; 1 Jun 1870; H.C.Barker; B591

Our further research has located a Capronnier catalogue c1891, which lists the Hexham Ascension, so the matter is now beyond doubt. [Jonathan & Ruth Cooke, 7/10/2000]
