Circular cover for font [HEXAB6504] with central boss and open canopy of six ogee scrolls, curled at the foot on the cover and meeting to support a circular covered urn-shaped finial on a plinth. All dark polished oak.
A simple Crown font cover of thin boards supporting six ogee scrolls rising from the angles and meeting just below the finial. The volute of each scroll has a plain ball finish.
“It is furnished with a wooden cover, not without character, which may safely be assigned to the time of the general repair in 1725.” [Hodges, Monograph, 1888, p.45.]

Previously (at least 1905–c1916?) on the font in S bay of S transept, now St Etheldreda's chapel.
For some time between 1870 and 1905 on the font immediately west of the tower crossing in the 1870 vestry annex.
“It was agreed that the oak Font Cover be given a coat of preservative preparation.” [Churchwardens' Minutes HEXAB5086 02/11/1920]
