The Hexham Abbey Project
revealing the past, enhancing the present, enriching the future

Over recent months we have been progressing the Hexham Abbey Project, which aims to enhance the opportunities for people to learn about and participate in the remarkable heritage of the Abbey.

As part of our development work we have prepared and adopted the attached Conservation Management Plan, which aims to capture all aspects of the heritage, identify why they are important and to whom and incorporate the information into a comprehensive plan to guide the current and future management of the site. We regard this as a vital tool to help us as we continue to care for the wonderful heritage of the Abbey and its former monastic buildings.

Although we have prepared this plan in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders, we appreciate that there may still be some gaps or inaccuracies and we intend to continue keep it under regular review. (Please note that the detailed appendices and enclosures are currently being updated; they are not therefore included with the attached version of the plan, but can be made available on request.)

If you would like to contribute to the ongoing development of this Conservation Management Plan we would be delighted to receive any comments you might like to send us by e-mail to the Abbey Administrator.
