FREE FESTIVAL 2008

Thurs 25th September - Sat 4th October

"There's no such thing as a free lunch..."

There may be no such thing as a free lunch - but we aim always to keep a very special part of the Festival programme open and freely accessible by all. So the opening weekend of the Festival offers free events around Hexham town centre.

Pride of place goes to our community artists Carolyn Mendelsohn and Ingrid Wagner - see the education page for more details of their work, and how you can get involved in some very exciting projects.

Big KnitOn Saturday 27 September our free events will run between 10.00 am - 3.00 pm. There’ll be street theatre, poetry and musicians giving impromptu performances everywhere! The schools procession will be led by the Dilston dragon to the unveiling of the “Big Knit”, featuring the giant sculpture knitted from recycled materials in a project led by Ingrid Wagner.

The full schedule will appear here - so come back and check out the latest lime-up. Currently scheduled to appear will be Keith Armstrong offering poetry by Hexham born Wilfrid Gibson - we’ll be celebrating 130th anniversary of his birth with a special event on 2nd October - his birthday.

Dolly PopThere will also be appearances by the highly original and entertaining Dolly Pop, offering their innovative a cappella girl band mix of Sticky Pop, Man-eating RnB and Gangsta Hip Hop with some glockenspiel and loop action, performed in a dolly fashion. This is not to be missed!! If you're in the mood for music with fire, don't hide but seek what you desire!
