Graham Coatman (cred. Paul Harris)The 2008 Hexham Abbey Festival set a new level of excitement and enterprise for this 9 day wondrous autumn line-up of local, national and international artists. It featured some 24 events over 10 days, and included 2 commissions, 3 first performances, artists in residence and “Face”, a highly original film and music installation, plus a schools workshop and performance project, and the Hexham Abbey Gardens Big Knitting community project knitted sculpture and tea party! And of course, first class concerts by artists both local and with international standing.

Hexham Abbey Festival 2009 - DISTANT VOICES!

The provisional programme for Hexham Abbey Festival 2009 is announced, and ensures that the growth and success of this long established Festival continues - the only Northumbrian Festival to present such a full range of music and arts. The line up of superb musicians is focused on two themes: The “Distant Voices” we celebrate are those of St Wilfrid in the 1300th anniversary year of the death; and an "Eastern & Exotic" musical thread running through many of the performances, linking performers, and repertoire. There’s also something of a keyboard fest, as the Abbey will have a new chamber organ built by the Scots firm Lammermuir.
